The successful testing of Starlink Direct to Cell Zambia marks a historic milestone for satellite-to-mobile connectivity in Africa. Through a partnership between MTN Zambia and Starlink, the first data session and fintech transaction were transmitted using satellite communication and existing LTE devices. The technology enables smartphones to access voice, messaging, and data services in remote areas where traditional networks are unavailable, paving the way for expanded digital connectivity across Zambia and beyond.

Starlink’s partnership with Globe Telecom has enabled Starlink Direct to Cell adoption in the Philippines, making it the first country in Southeast Asia to bring direct satellite‑to‑mobile connectivity to underserved and remote communities through standard LTE phones. The service, expected to be commercially available in 2026, will extend mobile data, voice, and messaging into areas difficult for terrestrial networks to serve, supporting digital inclusion, disaster resilience, and economic participation.

Kyivstar’s Starlink Direct to Cell adoption has achieved a major milestone in Ukraine, registering more than 3 million users since its launch in November 2025. The satellite-to-mobile service, powered by SpaceX’s Starlink technology, has delivered over 1.2 million SMS messages, providing essential communication in regions where terrestrial coverage is unavailable. The service — accessible at no additional cost for many 4G subscribers — highlights the growing importance of satellite integration in strengthening national connectivity and digital resilience.
